Quilting 101: The Classic Log Cabin



Join Leslie Bercher in this Quilting 101: The Classic Log Cabin class!  Unlock the secrets of traditional quilt-making with our QUILTING 101 course, featuring the iconic "Quilt In a Day" Log Cabin pattern by Eleanor Burns.  Over 4 weeks, we will take you from fabric strips to a stunning finished masterpiece using efficient beginner friendly techniques.  You will learn the art of "strip piecing", how to maintain consistent seam allowances, and the best practices for assembling your blocks into a beautiful layout!  This class is designed to build your confidence and provide you with a solid foundation in quilting terminology and construction.  This is a beginner level class, however students should have a basic working knowledge of their sewing machine, including how to thread it and wind a bobbin.

Classes will be on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm, January 28th, February 4th, 11th and 18th. Cost for the class is $150.00. By the final session, you will have a completed (or nearly completed) quilt top and the skills necessary to tackle future projects on your own.  

You will need: Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day Log Cabin book (available soon at Southern Comforts); 1/8 yd for center squares; 3 light fabrics - 1/3 yd, 1/2 yd and 2/3 yds; 3 dark fabrics - 3/8 yd, 5/8 yd, and 2/3 yds; 5/8 yd for first border and 1 yard for second border.  You will also need 4 yds of 42/44" or 2 yds of 108" for backing, and 1-3/4 yds batting.  All supplies are available in store and you will receive a 10% discount for all items used for class or purchased on day of classes.

Supplies needed: sewing machine (in good working condition) with 1/4" foot, 2 pre-wound bobbins, 80/12 needle; cotton thread in neutral color (light gray or white); straight pins, seam ripper; snips or small scissors; water soluble marking pen; Rotary cutter and mat; 6.5"x18.5" rectangle ruler (can be longer); iron and pressing board.  Please arrive early to set up your machine and be ready to begin when class starts.  Feel free to pack a dinner or snack.  Please note there is a lid requirement for all drinks.  

Class must have a minimum of 3 participants for the class to be held.  If the class does not make, you will have your choice of a refund using your original payment method, or store credit.  If you cancel or are a no show, no refund will be issued, however any kit items paid for will be given to you on your next visit.  Thank you.

She has also just started her long arming business. She has sew many tips and tricks, and we can't wait to learn from her!
